Earthquake kills more than 1,000 in Myanmar and Thailand

The UN is scrambling to provide aid to Southeast Asia after a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake killed more than a thousand people in Myanmar and at least nine people in neighbouring Thailand. A partially completed skyscraper collapsed in Bangkok, temporarily trapping dozens of workers.

A powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, with tremors felt in Thailand and elsewhere in the region. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, was centered near Sagaing, close to Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city. It caused significant damage and loss of life in both Myanmar and Thailand.
