16 April 2021 - Strong earthquake strikes China city


On Friday 16 April 2021, the China Earthquake Networks Center reported that a strong magnitude earthquake occurred near Luanzhou City, Tangshan City, Hebei Province at 4:06 pm local time with a focal depth of 9 km.

Strong tremors were felt at the epicenter of the quake and were also felt as far away as Tianjin and Beijing, according to the official Weibo account of the China Earthquake Networks Center. Weak shaking might have been felt in Linxi located 23 km from the epicenter, Guye 23 km away, Zhaogezhuang 26 km away, Changli and Tangshan.

The strong shaking tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Friday 16 April 2021 at 4:06 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 9 km below the surface.

The event was filed by the China Earthquake Networks Center (CEIC), the first seismological agency to report it.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
