Russia: Covid-19 Coronavirus death toll is 90,558

Russia’s health system strained by rise in COVID-19 infections.

CBC News: The National shows that the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases has hit Russia hard and its underfunded health-care system is showing the strain even though authorities had made a big deal about fighting the deadly virus with high-tech surveillance measures and heavy enforcement. 

Russia or the Russian Federation is a transcontinental country spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. It is the largest country in the world. The country consists of more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area, extending to eleven time zones, and has bordering 16 sovereign nations. Russia has a population of 146.7 million. Moscow, the capital, is the largest city in Europe, while Saint Petersburg is the second-largest city and the country's cultural center.

The East Slavs emerged as a recognizable group in Europe between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD. The medieval state of Rus' arose in the 9th century. In 988 it adopted Orthodox Christianity from the Byzantine Empire, beginning the synthesis of Byzantine and Slavic cultures that defined Russian culture for the next millennium. Rus' ultimately disintegrated into a number of smaller states, until it was finally reunified by the Grand Duchy of Moscow in the 15th century. By the 18th century, the large nation had greatly expanded through conquest, annexation, and exploration to become the Russian Empire, which became a great major European power, and the third-largest empire in history.
