2020-2021 Canada winter forecast: Here’s what weather Canadians can expect

Global News has the fantastic winter forecast for you with weather radar. Unfortunately, Coronavirus COVID-19 means that more Canadians will be spending the winter at home instead of outside. Trips to tropical beaches will likely be replaced with local outdoor activities like skiing, skating and snowmobiling, but all of this requires snow.

In a typical La Niña winter, much of southern Canada gets blanketed in snow thanks to an active northern jet stream and an almost constant supply of cold air feeding south from the Arctic.

What does "La Nina" mean for winter? La Nina refers to the periodic cooling of ocean surface temperatures in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific. Typically, La Nina events occur every 3 to 5 years or so, but on occasion can occur over successive years. La Nina represents the cool phase of the El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle.

Global News chief meteorologist Anthony Farnell has a detailed look at what great weather you can expect across Canada this winter. The weather forecast will fascinate you.
