What’s Hidden Under the Sand of Sahara
What’s Hidden Under the Sand of Sahara - a good question to ask. See the interesting descriptions.
The Sahara is a desert located on the African continent. With an area of 9,200,000 square kilometres, it is the largest hot desert in the world. It is also the third largest desert overall after Antarctica and the Arctic. The name 'Sahara' is derived from the Arabic word for "desert", ṣaḥra.
Saharan Dust Cloud Arrives At The USA Gulf Coast, Bringing various Haze. A massive cloud of dust from the Sahara Desert is arriving along the USA Gulf Coast this week after traveling across the Atlantic Ocean - an interesting occurrence. The phenomenon happens every year. However, the 2020 version is especially large and imposing, experts have noticed.
The Sahara covers large parts of countries of Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Western Sahara, Sudan and Tunisia. The Sahara covers 9 million square kilometres (3,500,000 sq mi). This amounts to 31% of Africa.
ReplyDeleteThe Sahara is sure mainly rocky hamada (stone plateaus); ergs (sand seas - large areas covered with sand dunes) form only a minor part. However, many of the sand dunes are over 180 metres high.
Wind or rare rainfall shape the desert features: sand dunes, dune fields, sand seas, stone plateaus, gravel plains (reg), dry valleys (wadi), dry lakes (oued), and so-called salt flats (shatt or chott).
There are several deeply dissected mountains (many volcanic) that rise from the desert, including the Aïr Mountains, Ahaggar Mountains, Saharan Atlas, Tibesti Mountains, Adrar des Iforas, and the Red Sea Hills. The highest peak in the Sahara is Emi Koussi, a shield volcano in the Tibesti range of country of northern Chad.
Emi Koussi is a high pyroclastic shield volcano that lies at the southeast end of the Tibesti Mountains in the central Sahara, in the northern Borkou Region of northern Chad. The Elevation of it is 3,445 m.
Before, there were green meadows and lakes in that area. There was a river connected to the Atlantic ocean. Some consider livestock to be a major factor in the changes that happened. Humans contributed to the resulting decreased size of lake Chad.
ReplyDeleteits drained just like antartica is instantly froze because they need to do that to disable travelers to reach the true story behind it...today and before 300 y people used cryogen in secret services...100prozent antartica is man made ice shelf
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Is Antarctica actually man made ice shelf? The ice keeps melting right now. There are mysteries about this ice.
DeleteThe ice could collapse. Here is an interesting story: Weird Science: Could piling man-made snow on Antarctica stop ice sheet collapse?

"We are already at a point of no return if we don’t do anything."
The amount of snow needed to stabilize the glaciers is at least 7.4 trillion tons of snow.
The plan would halt an eventual global sea-level rise of 10 feet that would inundate coastal cities.
Could "artificial snow" plan really save the world? This weird original plant might work.
Piling billions of tons of man-made snow on top of the West Antarctic ice sheet could prevent it from melting and thus collapsing into the sea, a new study suggests. Such a "hail-Mary" effort could then stop an eventual global sea-level rise of 10 feet, which would inundate certain coastal cities around the world, according to the study authors.
"Snow can indeed push the ice sheet back toward a stable regime and stop the instability (of the ice sheet)" said study lead author Johannes Feldmann of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany. In practice, he said it could be done by pumping seawater out of the ocean and "snowing it" onto the ice sheet at a fast rate of several hundred billion tons per year over a few decades.
