Why NASA Waited 9 Years To Send Astronauts Into Space From USA
This recent space launch from USA is impressive. On May 30, 2020, NASA and SpaceX launched astronauts into space from USA soil for the first time in almost 10 years.
The space shuttle program ended in 2011. Since then, NASA has relied on the Russian space program's shuttles to get USA astronauts up to the International Space Station. This was certainly a necessity for continuing research and development. Long-term space travel is the important area of research and improvement.
Because of the commercial crew program, some changes are happening. It took a long time to send a crewed rocket back to space from the USA. It’s happening on a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.
The Dragon spacecraft is capable of carrying up to 7 passengers to and from Earth orbit, and beyond. It is the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth. It will also soon become the first private spacecraft to take humans to the space station.
