Australia bushfires: Koala victims start to return home

This Youtube video is interesting. Large fires are a problem in Australia right now. With dangerous bushfires threatening their lives, this Australian primary school was transformed into an emergency koala hospital. Now many of the animals are getting ready to go home. It's nice to save as much wildlife as possible.

  1. Insurance companies will have problems with massive fires. Here is an example of an insurance company becoming in financial ruins, unable to pay millions of dollars to policyholders.

Merced Property & Casualty Co. could not meet its obligations after a Camp Fire, the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history.

Merced's assets were about $23 million, but it faced about $64 million in outstanding liabilities just in the city of Paradise.

  2. Australia Zoo has identified the koala as an important conservation species. It is possible that the wild population of koalas is critically threatened and in need of protection.

Although not listed as endangered by any Australian state, the koala population has been devastated over the last 100 years.

It has been estimated that about 80 percent of original koala habitat in Australia has been cleared since European settlement.

Factors that decrease the koala population are: urbanisation, bushfires and other factors.
