Aug 31, 2019: Mars Helicopter Drone Installed on NASA`s Next Mars Rover



This is the first ever non-Earth planet helicopter. It is connecting to the Mars Rover. NASA workers attached the small helicopter to the rover on August 28. This is the Mars 2020 Rover. The machine will launch on a mission to Mars in July 2020. It is solar powered. The weight is 1.8 kilograms. The helicopter will be able to detach and fly. It is yet to be seen if such flight can be performed in the thin Martian atmosphere. Mars Air in just 1% as dense as that of Earth at sea level. The helicopter carries no science instruments.

There is another flying machine planned to launch by NASA. It is called the Dragonfly. The destination is Saturn’s huge moon Titan. It is scheduled to lift off in 2026 and land on Titan’s surface in 2034.
